Stephen HillStephen Hill
Freelance designer, Illustrator and cartoonist, seeks new
challenges, clients and fun projects.
I can no longer work out if I’m an illustrator who can design
or a designer who can illustrate… All I know is I’m confident
I can create amusing, memorable, creative and colourful
imagery that can bring a story to life, that communicates well
and that has a wow factor. I am happy working to a strict brief
doing as little or as much as you need… I can help with almost
anything visual you might need from a cover, page design and
layout, to illustrations, advertising, banners, point of sale,
logos and stationery… even murals… who knows…

Who is Ishbel Macmillan the comical children’s author?

Born and brought up near Glasgow, I have lived in Harpenden for many years.  Apart from my family my other main love is singing – it is very levelling.
The same seems to be true of animals – they just want to be accepted for their own qualities.  In middle age I trained as a Midwife, a wonderful profession for those who believe women are all very different, and should be treated as such.  My motto has been “throw away the books -do it your own way”.  The same has been true of my caring of animals.
I have always enjoyed a sense of the ridiculous, and I just love to take real-life situations and see the funny side, not to mention an overwhelming wish to puncture the egos of those who attempt to abuse their power over the rest of us.
I particularly love to make children see similarly, while also trying to instil in them the values of love and respect for their fellow creatures, both human and animal.

Archie came to us in 2001, a rescue dog from an animal charity.  He had been abandoned and was found by Wardens in a park in St Albans.  All of my current and future stories are based on factual events.

Our beloved son, Scott died in 2007. A good friend suggested I start a healing project, and so began The Archie Books!
